Select Coordinate System Zone dialog

This dialog appears, if you do the following:

1. Do one of the following:
   • If your currently selected coordinate system is Default:Default: Select the main menu command File > System Properties, set the focus onto the Select coordinate system setting and click the browse button.
   • If your currently selected coordinate system is a different one: Select the main menu command File > System Properties, set the focus onto the Select coordinate system setting and click the browse button. The Select Coordinate System dialog appears. Click New System.

   The Select Coordinate System Type dialog appears.

2. Select Coordinate System and Zone and click Next.

Use the dialog to select the coordinate system zone that you want to use from the group of zones.

Coordinate System Zone selection

The coordinate system database current.csd contains hundreds of coordinate system zones for selection. Each zone gives a full set of projection system information. Sets of zones are assorted in Coordinate System Groups, which typically refer to country names. Thus you can easily find the appropriate coordinate system.

Coordinate System Group: The list of alphabetically sorted coordinate system groups. When one sets the focus on one of the groups, the list of zones adjust itself to display the zones available in this group.

Zone: The list of alphabetically sorted coordinate system zones available in the selected group.

For selecting the coordinate system zone, first select the coordinate system group, then the appropriate zone.

Properties of an item

To view the properties of the selected coordinate system group or zone, right-click its name to access the shortcut menu. Select Properties. This opens a properties read-only dialog, which displays the parameters of the selected items.

Next step

Click Next. One of the following happens:

• The Select Datum Transformation dialog appears, if the selected coordinate system zone does not provide a pre-defined datum transformation (for example, with the zones assorted in the UTM coordinate system group).
• In most cases, a datum transformation is already part of the zone information. Therefore, the Select Geoid Model dialog is the next one to appear. Use it to specify the geoid model to be applied, if any.
