GNSS Receiver Properties - External Sensor

This tab appears, if you do the following:

If you select the module in the Tree view after you have added the module, the categories and settings of this tab appear in the Properties view.

External Sensor category

Use the External Sensor category and settings to enable and set up a configuration of parameters and commands to be used for the communication with external sensors.

Enabling the configuration and setting port parameters

The Enable external sensor configuration property specifies whether the communication with external sensors is enabled or not. By default no connection to an external is specified (No).To enable the communication, select Yes. Use the Port setting to specify the serial port of the receiver the sensor is connected to, and set the port parameters using the Bits per second (transmission rate), Data bits, Parity, and Stop bits properties.

Specifying commands

The Commands property specifies the command strings to be sent to the sensor. To edit the commands, set the focus into the value field and click the browse button. The External Sensor Commands dialog appears.

Tilt alarm settings

The last four settings of the External Sensors category are used to configure the GNSS Receiver module in combination with the Alarm Manager module to to issue alarms, if an external tilt sensor detects offsets from given values.

The settings here are used to set the thresholds to be exceeded before an alarm is raised. Alarms are issued, if the tilt exceeds the addition of the values for a default angle and an offset for either the pitch or the roll angle.

Pitch (Y-tilt, North-South tilt): Specifies a known base angle in Y-axis direction for the tilt sensor, if it is not perfectly aligned. Allowed angles are between -180° and +180°. Offsets are added to the value here, before an alarm is issued. Default: 0°.

Pitch offset: Specifies the minimum offset to the known basic pitch angle, which induces an alarm. Allowed offsets are between 0.1° and 10°. Default: 1°.

Roll (X-tilt, East-West tilt): Specifies a known base angle in X-axis direction for the tilt sensor, if it is not perfectly aligned. Allowed angles are between -180° and +180°. Offsets are added to the value here, before an alarm is issued. Default: 0°.

Roll offset: Specifies the minimum offset to the known basic roll angle, which induces an alarm. Allowed offsets are between 0.1° and 10°. Default: 3°.

Use the Alarm Manager module to enable alarming for high tilt angles. To do so, select the following alarm condition for external sensor data at the GNSS Receiver module:
