Data Logger IPI: Input of in-place inclinometer arrays

The Data Logger IPI module is a tool for connecting to a data logger and importing In-Place Inclinometer (IPI) measurement data. It extracts the in-place inclinometer data from a data logger data file and passes it on to the monitoring database. If the data file does not contain cumulative displacements, the module calculates them from the tilt values.

Currently, the Data Logger IPI module respects the following measurement data in the data file:

If the data file contains more measurement types, set up the module to skip the respective values when reading in the data file.

The stored data can then be used by:

Tip - For more information on the data file containing the in-place inclinometer data, see Format of the Data Logger IPI data file.

Adding the module

The Data Logger IPI module is available from the Tree view root Trimble 4D Control Server. Trimble 4D Control Server accepts multiple Data Logger IPI modules in the system.

When the module is being added, the Data Logger IPI Properties dialog appears. Each instance of the Data Logger IPI module (that is, each configuration) represents an individual in-place inclinometer attached to it. Each configuration holds information on the in-place inclinometer hardware, on the raw data file to be imported (location and contents), and on alarming thresholds. You also may remove a configuration from here, if you do not need it anymore. You may update a configuration any time, if the file import is disabled.

Data visualization

Once configured, the Data Logger IPI module provides collective information about the status of the in-place inclinometer and of data acquisition. Through the views available to this module, one can quickly determine the health and status of that particular in-place inclinometer setup.

In the Tree view, each Data Logger IPI module is represented by its configuration name and a status-identifying icon.

Icon Device is disconnected

Inactive, data will not be read in. No indication for an alarm status.

Active, reading in raw data and converting it to engineering units. No indication for an alarm status.

One of the following:

  • Reading of file failed for a short time.

Alarm status: one of the following:

  • No data for a longer time than the timeout threshold;
  • Segment failure.

Alarming

With alarming activated, the Data Logger IPI module triggers alarms, if it is in one of the or (alarm) states.

The following alarm states can be reported:
