The Settop M1 file based connection type is one of several connection types that serve the communication between a Settop M1 Monitoring Controller and a Trimble 4D Control Server module connecting to an instrument, such as a total station or a temperature sensor.
Tip - What is a Settop M1 Monitoring Controller used for
The Settop M1 is a total station controller for monitoring applications. It integrates the functionalities of a field computer, a device server, a network router, a cellular modem and a remote power supply into a single unit. The Settop M1 has a web interface, which provides functionality for controlling a total station, including the site setup and the scheduling of measurement cycles. Since the Settop M1 can run autonomously and has a large onboard memory, it is able to collect and store observations even if the connection to the Trimble 4D Control Server software is down. Once the connection is restored, the Settop M1 seamlessly transmits all buffered data to Trimble 4D Control Server.
The Settop M1 file based connection type is a direct TCP/IP client connection to the Settop M1 device. It makes use of round measurements that are stored on the Settop M1 device as GKA data files. It is the best choice, if the communication between the Settop M1 device and Trimble 4D Control Server is not stable.
When the Settop M1 file based connection type is selected, Trimble 4D Control Server connects to the Settop M1 device in user-specified intervals and retrieves the last stored round measurement. If the communication is not possible at that moment, Trimble 4D Control Server retries to establish the connection. Thus round measurements are not lost due to gaps in the measurements due to communication errors. This connection type is passive, that is it does not command the Settop M1 device or instruments connected to it. It just establishes connections in pre-defined intervals.
Note - The download interval should be less or equal to the measurement interval at the total station. Otherwise, round measurements would be lost, since only the last round measurement is retrieved by Trimble 4D Control Server when using this connection type.
To configure a file-based Settop M1 connection, select the Settop M1 file based connection type. The properties of the Connection Settings category adjust themselves for the selected connection type.
Host name: Specifies the name (IP address or host name) of the TCP/IP server host socket. The connection will be built up to the default Settop M1 port at that server.
Project name: For specifying the project to be downloaded, go to the value field and click the browse button. This opens the Select Project dialog which displays all projects available at the Settop M1 device with their creation dates.
Note - When you have selected the project and moved to an other property of the connection settings, the Project name setting will not be available for editing anymore. If you have to select a different project, create a new module configuration.
Storage path: Specifies the path to the folder (local computer), where the data files are written to. To select or change the destination, set the focus into the value field and click the browse button. The Folder Browser dialog appears.
Download interval: Specifies the interval in minutes in which the module connects to the Settop M1 and downloads the latest data files. Select one of the options between 1 and 60 minutes.
Download active: Only available for editing when you have specified all other connection settings. For enabling the connection and to start the first download after the period specified with the Download interval setting, set the value to Yes. Default: No.
