Alarm Jobs dialog

This dialog appears if you do the following:

Tip - Use the Properties view to view and edit the settings for a specific job: Select Alarm Manager in the Tree view. The Alarm Manager Status view displays the list of jobs. There, set the focus onto the job entry. (If the Properties view is not open, right-click the job entry in the Alarm Manager Status view, then select Properties from the shortcut menu.) The Properties view now displays the settings of all categories of the selected job.

List field

The dialog displays a list of all currently added jobs. Jobs are defined by the Alarm condition setting. If you add a new job, it appears under the default condition None as long as you have not edited the Alarm condition setting.

You must configure jobs first, before the Alarm Manager module can start monitoring the system. You may also remove a job from here, if you do not need it anymore.

Add

Adds a new job to the list. To define its properties use the settings on the right side of the dialog.

Remove

Deletes the currently selected job(s) from the list.

<Job name> Properties

Contains all settings for the currently selected job.

Condition Settings category

Each job is defined by the specific alarm condition, which may urge an alarm message.

The alarm conditions can be grouped according to the module issuing the alarm. Therefore, to minimize the list of offered alarm conditions, first select the respective module from the Set module filter drop-down list, then select the name of the alarm condition in the Alarm condition drop-down list. If the Set module filter drop-down list is set to All (default selection), all available alarm conditions will be displayed, independently from the module that triggers the alarm.

Tip - For configuring jobs for all possible alarm conditions of Trimble 4D Control Server or of the selected module in one step, select the All condition. (Information alarm types will have an action delay of 0 seconds and an alarm state of Condition occurs because no other settings are possible for information alarms.)

Alarm type: Displays the alarm type of the selected alarm condition, one of Alert, Warning, or Information. Alarms of the Information type are only issued, if their condition status is Condition occurs, with no action delay.

Action Settings category

Alarm action: Alarm actions are the actions triggered, if an alarm condition occurs or stops. With some conditions, it does make sense to send an e-mail to the system administrator(s) to have them informed about the current status situation of the application. There might be some other conditions where you do not need to interfere or have the administrator informed, but you would like the system itself to handle the problem automatically. Therefore, the Alarm action setting offers different types of alarm actions.

Only one alarm action can be assigned to a job. If you need to react with multiple actions to the same alarm condition, set up another Alarm job.

Among the available actions are the following:

Group dependent settings: Specifies the settings for the selected alarm action, depending on the Alarm group. When you have selected any of the actions that need more settings and have defined more than one Alarm group, the Action Settings dialog appears. If only one Alarm group exists, a settings dialog relating to the action-type appears directly.

Modem: Only available, if the selected Alarm action is Send modem command. Specifies the modem connection. Use the drop-down button to select a modem connection from the list of modems known at the computer running the Alarm Manager module.

Execution Settings category

Use the settings of this category to define, when the alarm action shall be executed.

The Action delay setting specifies the time in seconds to wait before the alarm action is started. This option may help to avoid superfluous alarms. This setting is disabled and set to 0, if the selected alarm condition is of the Information type.

Tip - A good idea to pause an alarm for a while (for example, when testing the system), is to set the alarm action to None. Another possibility is setting a very high action delay.

The Condition status setting lets you select, whether the module sends an alarm, when the condition occurs, disappears (condition disappears), or in both cases (Both condition states). This setting is disabled and set to Condition occurs, if the selected alarm condition is of the Information type.
