When you add the Alarm Manager module, the Alarm Manager Properties dialog appears with this tab.
If you select the module in the Tree view after you have added the module, the categories and settings of this tab appear in the Properties view.
Use the General Settings tab to view and edit the collection of Alarm jobs. Depending on the selected actions, you may view and edit more general settings, such as the SMTP settings for e-mailing.
The Alarm Manager module lets you manage multiple Alarm jobs.
The List of alarm jobs setting shows the number of jobs currently set up. To add a new job set the focus onto the List of alarm jobs setting and click the browse button. This opens the Alarm Jobs dialog, where you can view and edit Alarm jobs.
Note - For successfully adding jobs, the Alarm Manager module must already be loaded. Adding jobs is not possible from the General Settings tab of the Alarm Manager Properties dialog.
If at least one alarm job is configured to send an automatically generated e-mail to the system administrators to have them informed about a change in the current status of the application, it is essential that the system is configured in a way that allows automatic e-mail transport. Trimble 4D Control Server uses the SMTP protocol for e-mail transport. The Server name setting specifies the address port of the server computer, and the Port number setting gives its IP port. The default port number is 25, the standard for listening ports at servers. Use Send mail from to specify a valid e-mail account at the SMTP server. If the server demands user authentication, set the Authentication setting to Yes and then edit the User name and the Password settings.
The settings of this category only apply to alarm types, which allow enabling alarm acknowledgment. User acknowledgment of alarms ensures that alarms of any kind have been noticed by a user. The Alarm Status and History views display information on the current acknowledgment status. If the alarm type does not allow acknowledgment, the Acknowledged by column displays "Not required".
Enable alarm acknowledgment: If set to Yes, those alarms that can be acknowledged must be acknowledged by a user. Default: No.
Note - This setting also has an impact onto informations. If it is set to Yes, all information alarms will be ignored, which are already active. That means, if alarm condition, subsystem, and the additional information are identical the information will not be repeated. If the Alarm acknowledgment / Enabled setting is set to No, all duplicate information messages within 60 seconds are dismissed.
A few alarm conditions are module-independent. Such alarm conditions, for example, are triggered on a specific Controller status and may not need to be configured. For enabling an alarm job on such a condition, use the Alarm Job dialog and set its module filter to CentralController. Another module-independent alarm condition exists for the size of the Technical database. However, this alarm is raised on a condition using a configurable threshold. For setting this threshold use the settings of the Database Size Alarm category.
Note - Enabling the system to trigger an alarm on a specific condition does not mean that the alarm is configured to be issued. If you have enabled the Technical DB size alarm and when the Alarm Manager module is loaded, open the Alarm Jobs dialog. From the module filter select Database, then select the alarm condition and set the action and execution settings for this alarm condition.
Technical DB size alarm: If the lifetime values of one or several database tables are set to a wrong limit (for example, if a new table is automatically added) the technical database may run out of space. Use the Technical DB size alarm property to specify whether an alarm is to be triggered when the database exceeds a configurable limit. By default this property is set to No. For <BOOK-Program_Name> to trigger such an alarm set the Technical DB size alarm property to Yes. The Threshold property becomes available.
Threshold: Only available, if the Technical DB size alarm property is s set to Yes. Specifies a size limit in MB of the Technical database. If the database exceeds this limit, an alarm is triggered. Make sure that an alarm job is configured for this alarm.
