Trimble 4D Control Server lets you apply security permissions to users by assigning one of three access levels with different privileges to each user.
When logging in, users specify their user name and, if required, password. These inputs are compared with the entries in the Trimble 4D Control Server database. Only users listed there can log on.
When first set up, Trimble 4D Control Server comes with three user logins, all of them not protected by passwords:
Tip - The Trimble 4D Control Server documentation assumes that its readers are users of the highest access level. If a feature is not available for you, it may be a good idea to check your access level and the privileges you have.
To each user, an access level is assigned. The Trimble 4D Control Server status bar always shows the current access level. See the following table:
User level |
Icon in status bar |
Color of module name in Tree view |
---|---|---|
Guest |
Grayed out - Guests are not allowed to control the module. |
|
Operator |
Depending on (current) access right, either black (full control right) or grayed out. |
|
Administrator |
Black - Administrators have full control rights on all modules. |
When the Trimble 4D Control Server UI starts up, the system checks for each view if the current user is allowed to open that view. If the current user may not access a specific view, it is not loaded; a layout load error message appears for your information. After acceptance, the UI starts up displaying only those views allowed for the access level.
For creating user accounts and assigning access levels to each user, use the File > User Management main menu command.
Note - Default user entries can of course be deleted or they can be enhanced by a password.
