To make sure that the software always uses the newest receiver, antenna, or datum parameters (such as ocean tides) available, Trimble 4D Control Server includes a feature for the automatic update of some of the Trimble common files. All Trimble common files needed to successfully run the software are delivered with the first installation of the product and may be updated with each software update or upgrade. However, Trimble even provides updates to these files in interim periods at the Trimble web server. Use the automatic update feature to check for updates and for eventually downloading and distributing updated files.
The status bar helps you in several ways keeping the common files up to date.

The shortcut menu of status icon lets you select the automatic update mode. Selecting a command here automatically sets the respective setting of the System Properties, Automatic download mode property.
The update icon's shortcut menu command Check for updates now is available, if the automatic update mode is set to Check and notify. If you select the command, Trimble 4D Control Server builds up a connection to the download URL and compares the age of the files residing there with its own matching files. If newer files are available, a message will appear in the Status Messages box. The status icon will change to . The Download & install updates now command becomes available. Select it to start the download and to make the common files available to all computers participating in the system.
Tip - Whether commands are available or just displayed for information depends on the user rights assigned to you.
