Predicted Ultra Rapid Orbits are used in Trimble 4D Control Server to improve the geometric modeling and to determine the quality of orbits used in the system. For postprocessing purposes, rapid and final orbits may further improve the geometric modeling. The Ephemeris Download module helps you to automate the download of predicted orbit files from the Internet.
Use the Ephemeris Download module to select the protocol for data transfer, and to provide the download address(es) and the target folder. For redundancy purposes you can specify two different download URLs for predicted orbits.
Additionally, you can specify a connections and target folders for downloading precise orbits as well as Differential Code Bias (DCB) files.
Tip - To ensure fast loading times of predicted orbit files, Trimble 4D Control Server makes sure that only predicted orbits which are currently needed are fed into the system.
When the SP3 file is downloaded from the Internet, it is initially compressed with GNU-zip. Ephemeris Download gets the ASCII SP3 file from the compressed file and converts it into an ORB file. This file is named according to the convention ECF<GPSweek><day_of_week>_<hour_of_day>.orb (for example, ecf11804_12.orb) in the ORB file folder specified in the settings of the General Settings category of properties. Each day, the Ephemeris Download module downloads the SP3 files in user-specified intervals. The time the download starts can be specified in the module properties as well as a repeat interval, if the download has failed.
The Ephemeris Download module is available from the Tree view item Trimble 4D Control Server. Trimble 4D Control Server needs (and accepts) only one Ephemeris Download module for the whole system. When the module is being added, the Ephemeris Download Properties dialog appears. It lets you define and select Ephemeris Download module configurations. Each configuration holds a set of settings, such as a protocol or the download target folder. You also may remove a configuration from here, if you do not need it anymore.
If you remove the module while the data download is performed, the data download will be finished first.
The Ephemeris Download module displays the Status and the History module-view pages.
When postprocessing, one often needs precise orbits and/or DCB files for a specified period only. Use the Ephemeris Download shortcut menu command Manual download.
All successful downloads are logged into the central database. The database contains the following table referring to Ephemeris Download:
