The Ephemeris Manager module collects orbit information and provides it to all other modules in Trimble 4D Control Server. The information is stored to improve the startup behavior of the system. The Ephemeris Manager manages the broadcast and predicted satellite orbits as well as the satellite almanac. Depending on your license status, it also connects to servers of realtime orbits and clocks, and makes this data available.
It writes the last valid orbit and almanac values into the registry and deletes the former ones. Thus, the best available orbit and almanac are immediately at disposal, also if a system restart should be necessary.
Tip - The system can make use of predicted Ultra Rapid Orbits to improve the geometric modeling and to determine the quality of orbits. Use the additional Ephemeris Download module to automate the download of predicted orbit files from the Internet. The Ephemeris Manager always makes sure that it loads those predicted orbits which are currently needed.
Optionally, the Ephemeris Manager writes hourly or daily (with or without overlap) RINEX orbit data and daily almanac data into specified folders.
The Ephemeris Manager module is started automatically with default properties, when you insert the first receiver module into Trimble 4D Control Server. You can start it also manually under the Tree view item Trimble 4D Control Server. It displays current orbit information in several module-view pages.
Trimble 4D Control Server needs only one Ephemeris Manager module for the whole system. For ensuring the availability of current ephemeris data in a distributed system, even if the Container running the active Ephemeris Manager module should be not available, you can add additional Ephemeris Manager modules. As soon as the currently active Ephemeris Manager module gets lost, the sleeping module becomes active and forwards ephemeris messages.
When the module is being added, the Ephemeris Manager Properties dialog appears. It lets you define and select Ephemeris Manager module configurations. Each configuration holds a set of settings, such as a time delay or whether predicted orbits are available or not. You also may remove a configuration from here, if you do not need it anymore.
In the Tree view, each Ephemeris Manager module is represented by its configuration name and a status-identifying icon.

Several module views give an overview on the current states of orbit and almanac information.
With alarming activated, the Ephemeris Manager module triggers alarms ...
By default, the first Ephemeris Manager added to the tree is the active one, if there are several Ephemeris Manager modules added. Further Ephemeris Manager modules are inactive. You can activate any Ephemeris Manager module: Select its shortcut menu command Wake up. The hitherto active Ephemeris Manager module will stop providing data, and the selected module will start forwarding ephemeris messages.
