Settop M1 IST Connect connection settings

The Settop M1 IST Connect connection type is one of several connection types that serve the communication between a Settop M1 multifunction device and a Trimble 4D Control Server module connecting to an instrument, such as a total station or a temperature sensor.

Tip - What is a Settop M1 Monitoring Controller used for
The Settop M1 is a total station controller for monitoring applications. It integrates the functionalities of a field computer, a device server, a network router, a cellular modem and a remote power supply into a single unit. The Settop M1 has a web interface, which provides functionality for controlling a total station, including the site setup and the scheduling of measurement cycles. Since the Settop M1 can run autonomously and has a large onboard memory, it is able to collect and store observations even if the connection to the Trimble 4D Control Server software is down. Once the connection is restored, the Settop M1 seamlessly transmits all buffered data to Trimble 4D Control Server.

Basically, the Settop M1 IST Connect connection type is a passive connection type that connects to the IST Connect cloud service which in turn connects to the Settop M1 device. IST stands for Intelligent SetTop service. Using this connection type, one does not need a static IP address for the corresponding Settop M1 device. For example, if the latter is operated by using the built-in cell modem, it cannot provide such IP addresses. Instead, the user can access an instrument using the IST Connect cloud service.

To configure a passive Settop M1 connection using the IST Connect cloud service, select the Settop M1 IST Connect connection type. The properties of the Connection Settings category adjust themselves for the selected connection type.

Custom name: The first part of the Uri that specifies the Settop M1 in the IST Connect service. For the full URL, this custom name is followed by .istconnect.com. Example: mytotalstation.istconnect.com.

Port number: Specifies the IST Port at the Settop M1 device that is assigned to the selected instrument for communication using the IST Connect cloud service.
