Disk Watch Jobs dialog

This dialog appears if you do one of the following:

• Add the Disk Watch module. The Disk Watch Properties dialog appears with the General Settings tab. Set the focus onto the Disk Watch jobs setting and click the browse button.
• Select the Disk Watch module in the Tree view. The categories and settings of the General Settings tab appear in the Properties view. Set the focus onto the Disk Watch jobs setting and click the browse button.

Use the Disk Watch Jobs dialog to view and edit Disk Watch jobs.

The Disk Watch module organizes its tasks in "jobs". Each job defines

• the computer and the folder on it (including sub-folders) to be monitored,
• the condition, when file deletion should occur (are files too old or is remaining disk space too low?),
• a selection of files to be deleted, depending on file extensions.

The Disk Watch module can run multiple jobs. To monitor two different folders on a computer, for example, set up two jobs.

Tip - Use the Properties view to view and edit the settings for a specific job: Select Disk Watch in the Tree view. The Disk Watch Status view displays the list of jobs. There, set the focus onto the job entry. (If the Properties view is not open, right-click the job entry in the Disk Watch Status view, then select Properties from the shortcut menu.) The Properties view now displays the settings of all categories of the selected job.

List field

The dialog displays a list of all currently added jobs. Jobs are represented in the list by the name of the computer and folder (including sub-folders) to be monitored. If you add a new job, it appears with the name New Disk Watch Job as long as you have not selected the computer and folder.

You must configure jobs first, before the Disk Watch module can start monitoring the system. You may also remove a job from here, if you do not need it anymore.

Add

Adds a new job to the list. To define its properties use the settings on the right side of the dialog.

Remove

Deletes the currently selected job(s) from the list.

Disk Watch Job Settings category

Contains all settings for the currently selected job(s). To select the computer and the root folder to be monitored, go to the Folder name property and click the browse button. The Browse Folder dialog appears. Only files within the selected folder and its sub-folders will be deleted, if the deletion criteria are fulfilled.

File filters: Specifies the type of files that Disk Watch deletes, if the deletion criteria are fulfilled. To view and edit the list of file types click the browse button. The File Filter Editor dialog appears. By default, the list contains the extensions of the files which are created by Trimble 4D Control Server (i.e. .org, .tmt, .dat, .t01, .t02, .??n, .??g, .??a, .??o, .??m, .??d, .??b, .zip, .Z, .tgz, .orb, .sp3). You may add further file types, remove file types from the list, or select all files of the monitored folder and sub-folders.

Warning – Make sure that when using wildcard characters no other files will be selected and deleted, which should not be deleted.

Delete mode: Specifies in which case files should be deleted:

• If files older than a specified age should be deleted, select File age. To provide the desired maximum file age, edit the Maximum age of files setting (unit is days).
• To make sure that a minimum amount of free disk space is always available at the specified computer, select Low disk space and enter a value in the Minimum free disk space setting field (unit is MByte) and for the Minimum file/folder age (unit is minutes). If the remaining disk space falls below the minimum value, the oldest files of the selected folder (and all its subfolders) of the specified types will be deleted until at least the given minimum disk space is available again. Of course this is no guaranty that the disk does not run full anyhow, because only files in the selected folder will be deleted, which could be insufficient to retrieve the desired free disk space.
  The Minimum file/folder age setting is used to prevent the Disk Watch module from deleting files or folders to which data is currently being appended or written. All files or folders with a "modified" age younger than the current time minus the value set with this setting will not be deleted.
  The Low disk space option is not available for selection, if the monitored folder resides on a different computer than the selected Controller.

Tip – As a rule of thumb for drives on which Windows is not installed: The threshold limit for minimum disk space should be twice the amount of data your system creates and stores during the period between two checks by the Disk Watch module. Remember that the operating system itself needs a considerable amount of free space.

Delete empty folders?: If set to Yes (default value), the Disk Watch module deletes folders which do not contain any files or subfolders, independently of their age. If you want to prevent empty folders to be deleted (for example, because they will be filled soon after the deletion occurred), set the Delete empty folders? property to No.

Pause job?: To temporarily prevent the job from being executed set the Pause job? setting to Yes. By default, it is set to No and, therefore, file deletion will start as soon as the specified condition is fulfilled.
