Setting up the GNSS Receiver module for remote data download

You can run Trimble 4D Control Server not only as a real-time system, where receivers immediately send the observation data, but also in post-processing mode. In post-processing mode receivers store the observation data internally, until the data is requested by the GNSS Receiver module using a scheduled connection.

Note – During first configuration of a post-processing system the remote receiver must be available. A passive setup is not allowed.

Setting up the GNSS Receiver module for prostprocessing

To set up a GNSS Receiver module in postprocessing mode for data logging at the receiver and for remote data download from there, the following specific settings are necessary:

  1. Use the Selected Station category to select the station and the Receiver Information category to make sure the correct receiver type is selected.
  2. At the Decoder category, set the Decoder group setting to Remote download.

The additional Data Logging and Remote Data Download settings pages become available.

  3. At the Data Logging category, set the Enable data logging configuration setting to Yes.

The data logging settings become available.

  4. Set the property for Data logging to On, and provide the values for the tracking interval and the continuous logging rate.
  5. At the Remote Download category, set a session delay and a maximum file age of data for download (in days).
  6. Depending on the Receiver type, more settings are necessary:

After acceptance, the GNSS Receiver module in postprocessing mode stays passive until you start the download.

Starting and stopping remote data download

When the GNSS Receiver module using the Remote download decoder is loaded (manually or automatically), the remote download will automatically start after the period defined by the Session delay property. The remote download will also start automatically, when you change the decoder group from Real-time to Remote download for a loaded module.

To discontinue the remote data download:

  1. Go to the Tree view and set the focus onto the GNSS Receiver module.
  2. Select its shortcut menu command Cancel Download.

The data download will not be performed anymore until you start it again. If data is downloaded while you select Cancel Download, the writing of the current file stops immediately at the Trimble 4D Control Server system. If you restart downloading within the period defined by the Maximum file age of data for download setting, the download process continues at exactly the next epoch of tracked data (exception: if the data was deleted at the receiver side, it is not anymore available).

To (re-)start the remote data download:

  1. Go to the Tree view and set the focus onto the GNSS Receiver module.
  2. Select its shortcut menu command Start Download.

The data download immediately starts with the (completed) files stored at the receiver memory, ignoring the Session delay setting. Files currently being written to the receiver memory card will not be downloaded.

Note - Orbits received by remote download may be older than the current data stored by the Ephemeris Manager module. Therefore, Trimble 4D Control Server provides orbit information from remote download to depending modules (such as Storage and Router modules) only, but not to the Ephemeris Manager module. The Satellite Tracking view, therefore, will display yellow satellite arrows, indicating that broadcast orbit information is missing.

Note - After a possible restart of the Trimble 4D Control Server system, all GNSS Receiver modules in postprocessing mode stay passive until you start the download.
