Communication control

Communication control is one of the main tasks of Trimble 4D Control Server during network setup and maintenance. Communication control is equally essential for data input and output.

When adding any module that needs to establish a connection for data transfer in any direction (incoming or outgoing), its Properties dialog contains the tabs that let you set up the connections: See the following table. Thereafter, you can view and edit settings in the Properties view.

Several connection methods are available for the data transfer from the devices to the control center. Such methods include communication using the internet, a serial cable, a USB, or radio connection.

Note - Explicit communication control with Trimble 4D Control Server is only necessary for the connection to external devices. Within the software, the modules internally provide the data to all dependent modules. No further setup is necessary.

This chapter details how to set up connections by selecting the matching connection types and their properties.

Getting information on connections

To create reports on all or selected incoming connections, use the Trimble Report Generator application. Two report types are available for incoming connections, Incoming Connection Detail and Incoming Connection Overview.
