Licensing - Software protection

Trimble 4D Control Server is license-protected. You have the choice between two licensing models:

  1. Online licensing. Each license is bound to the MAC address of a computer participating at a Trimble 4D Control Server setup. Continuous Internet connection is required. The computer to which the license is bound must connect to the Trimble License Server in regular intervals for the product to be able to run.
  2. The license is bound to a hardware key. In this case, you will not be able to run Trimble 4D Control Server without this hardware key (dongle) connected to the USB port of one of the computers participating at a Trimble 4D Control Server setup. The computer to which the hardware key is connected does not need permanent Internet connection. However, for updating the license key file that is bound to the hardware key by online activation, a temporary Internet connection must be available.

With your purchase of the product, you will receive the following e-mails from the Trimble License Server:

General licensing features

Trimble 4D Control Server is a software product that is highly modular. You will possibly not find any two installations that equal each other. For meeting individual requirements, the functionality of Trimble 4D Control Server is split up; one only needs to purchase those software features and options that match ones needs.

For one Trimble 4D Control Server system you need one license pool. A license pool is the entirety of all purchased options for an Infrastructure Solutions software system.

Licenses allow splitting functionality over multiple servers.

A license pool contains one or several licenses.

For activating the license for your product, you must bind it to either the MAC address of a computer (Model 1) or a hardware key (Model 2).

A license pool offers different types of licenses:

Primary license:

Automatically generated for a new license pool.

Expansion license:

To be used, if you need multiple licenses in a non-redundant system setup.

Redundant license:

License for a redundant system. The redundant license is bound to either the primary or an expansion license and contains exactly the same functionality as its master license.

The expansion license as well as the redundant license must be purchased separately.

To view your license status, select Help > About > Protection from the main menu.
